The Most Wuthering Heights of Mapleton day was a huge success, with community members coming together to raise awareness for domestic violence. DV Safe Phone was there to provide information about their organisation and to collect donations. They also had a booth where people could learn more about the organisation and sign up to volunteer.
DV Safe Phone's participation in the Most Wuthering Heights of Mapleton day is just one example of how we can all help to break down barriers to accessing life-changing domestic violence support. By partnering with others and getting involved we can all raise awareness and provide vital support to victims of domestic violence.
Learn MoreWith your help, they can continue to provide safe phones to victims of domestic violence and ensure that no call for help goes unheard.
Sunshine Coast Regional Council approved a $2000 grant which allowed us to purchase chairs and tables. They also approved a permit to have the event in the Lilyponds Park, Mapleton. The organisers are grateful to the teams in Grants and Permits who supported us (lead us by the hand!) through the steps required to reach the approval stage, the Parks Department rep and other staff who all played their part in floating the project.
The Lions were great communicators, calm, helpful and patient. From the first contact, "What would you like us to do?" through to their descent on the Park as they set up tables, chairs and gazebos efficiently, prepared food which they served with smiles, through to the end where they were last to leave as they checked we had left the Park as beautiful as we found it.
The Mapleton and District Community Association (MADCA) were solidly behind the project. From assistance to submit and manage a grant application, encouragement and on through to practical assistance on the day, MADCA certainly showed their community spirit.
Big thanks goes out to Steve, Ryan and Kyle from Infinity Music (formerly Shake It Up Music) for their generosity and assistance in allowing us to use the superb HK Polar 12 set up for the Red Dress Day stage. The system was superb and the guys are an absolute pleasure to deal with.
